The educational programs include Undergraduate, Graduate (Faculties) and Postgraduate levels. All programs are approved by Russian Ministry of Health Care and are included into the License. Education of foreifn citizens at undergraduate, graduate and postgraduate levels is maintained by the medical faculty of  international students.

The Undergraduate programs include:

Preparatory Department for foreign students

Medical College (Nursery School) – for applicants having Secondary (3 years) education or Higher Secondary education (scientific stream) certificates

Department of Pre-University course for Russian citizens.

Faculties

The educational programs of the main faculties of Saint-Petersburg Pavlov Medical University are based on state educational standards, worked out  by Ministry of Health Care of Russian Federation.

The educational programs (both for Russian and Foreign citizens) include:

  • Medicine – 6 year educational program; Qualification – Physician (Specialitat, MD); for foreign citizens MEDICINE program is available both in RUSSIAN AND ENGLISH MEDIUM
  •  Dentistry  - 5 year educational program; Qualification – Physician in Stomatology (Specialitat, MD)
  • Pediatrics - 6 year educational program; Qualification – Physician in Pediatrics (Specialitat, MD)
  • Adaptive Physical Education Culture - *** year education program; qualification - *** 
  • Faculty of Clinical Psychology - *** year educational program; qualification -
  • Higher Education Nursing School - *** year educational program; qualification – Manager

Training for Medicine, Dentistry and Pediatrics programs contains preclinical period (1-3 years) with basic, premedical and introductory medical disciplines, and clinical training (4-6 years; for Dentristry – since spring semester of the 3rd year till 5th year). Basic and premedical course includes the theoretic basis of medical specialities (Chemistry, Physics, Biology, Anatomy, Histology, Physiology, Microbiology, Biochemistry, Informatics, Pathological Anatomy, Pathophysiology, Pharmacology, Hygiene). Studies at Dental Speciality aims on more deep studies of Anatomy, Physiology, Histology, Microbiology, Pathological Anatomy and Pathophysiology of oral cavity.  Since the first years of education students start learning patient communication (Patient’s Care for therapeutic and surgical patients, Practice in clinics as Junior nurse,  Nurse Assistant and Nurse). Introductory preclinical subjects include Introduction (Propedeutics) of Internal Medicine, General Surgery, Radiology, Operative Surgery and Introduction (Propedeutics) to Dental diseases. Clinical rotations start at the senior courses and include different specialities.

Clinical training modulates the professional activity of the physician and is conducted in clinics, with patients. Study plan for every discipline includes the practical work in clinics and personal curation of the patient by the student (under observation of the teaching professor). Clinical training is performed both at clinics of the University and at the bases of clinical institutions for out-patients;  Saint-Petersburg Municipal clinical Hospitals and clinical research centers. The latter include Federal Budget State Institution of Heart, Blood and Endocrinology, Scientific Research Institute of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Scientific Research Institute of  Psychiatry, Scientific Research Institute of Oncology).

The educational activity of students includes:

  1. Teaching hours: practical and clinical classes and seminars in small groups (7-12 students per group);  lectures, presented in 12 large lecture halls 
  2. Self-Preparation  (at home, at the library or at the departments or clinics); for all students possibilities to use Internet-resources including those prepared by the University departments are given. 
  3. Summer practice as an obligatory part of the educational process (conducted in clinics of Saint-Petersburg or abroad).

For training of practical skills the simulation center is available, where students are able to train medical manipulations, including resuscitation.

The academic year consists of 2 terms with vacations between them; practice is done during the summer time (July)

Duration of academic hour:  45 minutes.

ECTS system:one ECTS credit is equal 36 academic hours (lectures and practice); 1 week of summer practice equals 1.5 ECTS credits; one exam  equals 1 ECTS credit; 1 week of graduation exams equals 1.5 ECTS credits

Grades and evaluation system

* exam results: 5-mark system  with “2” meaning “fail”; “3” – “satisfactory”; “4” – “good”; “5”- “excellent”. Exams are given at the end of each term. Accumulative 100-degree scale is used for more detailed evaluation of student’s knowledge

All the subjects included in the study plan as well as number of hours are obligatory to be passed, except electives and facultative disciplines. The choice of the elective disciplines is responsibility of students but students are to pass certain number of elective hours per year obligatory.

Postgraduate Education

Postgraduate Programs are available for our graduates and graduates from other higher medical schools as well as for medical specialists.
